一首動人心弦的歌〜慈悲之愛

慈悲心態最根本
能引世俗禪定樂
由此亦發成佛心
觀待空慧破二障
緣起
第一次聽聞巴利文慈悲經的唱誦，是在國外一條擾攘吵雜的公路上，車正奔馳、喇叭聲囂、人潮來往、互不相讓，當此之際車中傳出靜謐、悠揚、清涼又溫暖的樂音，有如天籟，令人頓忘塵囂，時空無限的延展。樂音溫柔地撫慰住波濤洶湧、焦躁不安的心靈；在迴還往復的巴利文唱誦中，巧妙地搭配著英語經文的朗誦，詞曲相互輝映，將慈悲的意涵深深沁入心脾……。爾後經過了半年的尋訪等待，終於得到此份珍貴的資料。
正逢週六國中啟蒙班開設英文課程，故延請英文老師淨懇以此《慈悲經》作為英文課程的緣起，並藉此機緣將英文經義翻成中文以饗大眾。一方面希望啟蒙班的學子們在學習的旅程中，不管任何學科的學習、乃至人生的學習，皆能以「慈悲」為其主要的內涵，皆能本著利益他人的目標，來拔除眾人的痛苦，給予眾人快樂，而培養成就自己為人才。再者也祈願淨懇學長能以此發心因緣，免除身體及精神上病苦的障難，獲得法益。
慈悲是人生的至寶，人因慈悲而發光、發熱，因慈悲而溫暖、調柔，因慈悲而成就大願大力……。慈悲令人清醒、卻能忘卻自我，慈悲令人勇於承擔、願於犧牲、敢於付出，於是「先天下之憂而憂，後天下之樂而樂」的大願成為可能，繼而將「代眾生受種種苦，把自己所有的快樂給予眾人」的心量無限擴大，乃至於願意代受他人將成熟的地獄痛苦，而將自己成佛的快樂全部給予。故真正的慈悲摧伏了無明煩惱，給予心靈自由祥和，終至成就佛果。
願我們能以慈悲心看世界，以慈悲心生活，以慈悲心工作，以慈悲心學習，以慈悲心與他人相處，以慈悲心拿掉最深的執著，用慈悲心來修行，用慈悲心面對困難，用慈悲心面對生死，用慈悲心享受生命。願大家都能免於仇恨及險阻，免於精神之苦，免於色身之苦，願大家都能幸福快樂地照料自己，並擁有無盡的慈悲之愛。（編者）

may all females, all males, all noble ones (saints),
all wordlings (i.e. those who have not attained sainthood)
all deities, all human, all those in the foul woeful planes

May whatever they have gained not be lost.
All beings are owners of their own kamma.

在浩瀚宇宙中，上及最高等的生物，下至最低等的生物
不論是在水中游動的
願他們免於精神之苦及仇恨
且免於色身之苦及險阻

結行 / 心超
慈悲是世間最根本應有的心態，它是一切福報的泉源，它也是學習正法的資糧，它更是能親近到良師益友的秘訣，說近說遠的利益都是說不盡的，連菩薩也看不到利益的邊際。
當然首先必須先要好好地善待自己，讓別人看到你有拔苦予樂的能力，如果你自己都生活在痛苦當中，相續的煩惱也不能解決，自然就不會得到別人的信任，也不會相信你有解決他們問題的能力，如此之慈悲是空洞的。並且不與智慧相應的慈悲，不知道眼前應該有的作法，或者助長壞人跋扈的氣息、或者未能盡責保護該善良風氣以及善人，反而助長惡人以及惡風氣的增上，如此的慈悲即是濫慈悲，它所生出來的是過患而不是功德，所以古德說：慈悲生禍患，方便出下流。當然第一步在還未與智慧及種種善巧方便結合之前，慈悲心的生起必須是要有心，而且很有誠意的想要幫助眾生拔苦予樂，但是這樣的覺受必須要由親及疏的觀修才能真實的生起，若不依次第觀修，往往慈悲心是乍似生起而實不生。所以慈悲經裡面先說自己，先能免於身心被外境逼迫之苦，內心也免於被煩惱所苦，並且真誠地盼望父母、師長、親友以及與自己有關係的同參道友亦如此，這是觀修的第一輪，對著他們都尚且生不出這樣的盼望，談不上對其他有情有如此的盼望，渴望他們能離苦得樂，若能離之該有多好，唯願三寶加持讓我能成辦這樣的事業。
再進而一步對第二類的有情，觀修他們希望也能夠如上所說般的離苦得樂，這樣的有情就是所有的一切行者、僧侶、沙彌及男女信眾，尤其在濁世要離苦得樂更是難能可貴，而我內心深處真的盼望他們能得到這樣美妙的果報，就如同盼望我自己得到一樣，更進一步地希望我這樣的得到都能夠完全送給他們，而我自己絲毫沒有留下，他們的痛苦由我全部承擔，不留一分。並且再進而一步地擴及資助我們修學的施主、護持道場的護法，並擴及一切跟我無關的人類。更進一步的是與我們有冤仇的，處處和我們過不去的、恩將仇報的、只要聽到他的名號我就受不了的、身毛直豎的、內心發抖的。這些美好的覺受若能生起，再將它普遍於一切的萬有（一切有情識者即是所有的生物）。上述所說的有情，與我有這些關係的有情，他們會顯現在十方無盡的世界，所以我要以東方的世界為所緣，生起如斯般的覺受，再以西方、北方、南方、東南方、東北方、西北方、西南方、下方、上方的世界為所緣，逐步逐步地生起相同的覺受，此時的心量是普遍浩瀚無涯的宇宙（法界），所生起的福報等同阿彌陀佛、釋迦佛與十方諸佛的福報，生起這樣心量最應該被禮敬，甚至諸佛都回過頭來禮敬有這樣發心的修行人，那怕發心者只是凡夫，甚至是惡業還未懺除的凡夫，因為經上說：發心究竟二無別，如是二心初心難。
